Privacy

The whole point of Suburban Legend is the absurdity, not the people. So privacy isn't an afterthought here, it's the entire editorial method. Here's how we handle it.

The people in the stories

Names are redacted. Locations are blurred to a region rather than a street. Profile photos, addresses, license plates, and anything else that could identify a specific human being come out before a word goes public. We're documenting institutions and the strange logic of neighborhood governance, not pointing a crowd at your neighbor.

The one exception is when a story stops being absurd and starts being genuinely harmful, such as targeted discrimination or abuse of power by someone acting in an official capacity. In those cases we may name a public official acting in their public role, because that deserves sunlight rather than a chuckle.

Tips you send us

When you submit a tip, your message and any screenshot you attach are delivered to us by email through a third-party form provider (Web3Forms), whose own handling of that data is governed by their privacy policy. Your email address is optional, and we only ask for it in case we need to confirm a detail. We don't sell it, we don't add you to a list, and we don't publish it. If you leave it blank, your tip is effectively anonymous to us.

Analytics and cookies

This is a static site, and we don't run advertising trackers or sell data to anyone. We do use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand basic traffic patterns, which pages get read, roughly where visitors come from, that sort of thing. GA4 sets its own cookies and collects standard analytics data, including a device identifier and approximate location derived from your IP address. We use it only to see what's resonating in aggregate, not to identify you personally. If you'd rather not be measured at all, a browser-level ad/tracker blocker or "Do Not Track" setting will keep GA4 from loading.

Takedowns

Think something identifies you despite our best efforts, or want a story reconsidered? Send us a note through our tip form and we'll take a look. We'd rather get it right than be stubborn about it.
