A proposed apartment development next to a grocery store has cleared City Council, which means it has also cleared the lower bar of becoming a local Facebook group’s main character for the evening.
The original poster set the tone by comparing the building to a county jail, then refining the comparison to a 2020s-era McDonald’s, two structures that share a color palette and, apparently, a capacity to wound.
A commenter asked, reasonably, what kind of jails the poster had been visiting that feature a resort pool, landscaped courtyards, and a parking lot full of trees.
No answer was provided.
From there the thread sorted itself into the usual factions. There were the traffic prophets, who could not wait to see that traffic. There were the defenders, who pointed out that the building is, structurally, a great deal of housing.
But the thread’s true protagonist arrived late. One resident warned the development would ruin the neighborhood’s peace. A neighbor then raised the concern that will outlive us all: she lives close enough to watch it go up, and she would like to know if anyone can guess how many more dog walkers there will be.
No one could guess. The number of dog walkers remains, for now, unknowable.
